West Street Redevelopment, Former Birks Building - Existing Site

Existing site 

• The buildings previously accommodated several businesses fronting West Street, including Birk's of Fareham furniture store. 
• The site is now vacant, and parts of the buildings have been demolished. 
• The remaining builidngs are no longer fit for purpose and significant work would still leave a space poorly suited for modern needs. 
• The existing properties fail to address climate change with no 'green' energy provision and poor operational performance. 
• The Council purchased the site as an affordable housing and commercial redevelopment opportunity in March 2024.

• There is a need for affordable housing within Fareham town centre. 
• The site provides the opportunity to deliver an exemplary redevelopment as part of the wider town centre regeneration programme. 
• Ideal locaton for affordable housing, situated centrally in Fareham, close to shops and services, and with good transport links. 
• Opportunity to provide good quality units of accommodation suitable for smaller households. 
• The site could accommodate approx. 23 one and two bed units.  
• The redevelopment can include new commercial space for businesses, fronting West Street.
