Fareham Borough Council owns garages throughout the Borough which are available to rent if you wish to store a vehicle. They cannot be used to store furniture or to use as a workshop.
Only vehicles can be stored in our garages. Once you accept a garage tenancy, you must provide some personal identification and a log book for the vehicle you will be storing in it. These must match your name and current home address. Garages will not be let without these being provided.
Weekly rent charges are:
It is our policy to charge VAT to Council tenants and named leaseholders. If you rent a garage that is more than one mile from your home, you will be charged the non-Council tenant rent rate. If the garage you want to rent falls into this category, you will be notified of this before you sign the agreement.
All garage dimensions are 4.7m deep and 2.76m wide. The size of the door is 2.20m wide and 1.90m high.
Garages are available to everyone to rent but priority will be given to existing Council Tenants and Leaseholders provided their Rent or Service Charge is not in arrears. Applicants must be 18 years or over to be offered a garage tenancy and must have a permanent address.
Providing they are available, you may rent more than one garage at a time. You will need to provide the log book for each vehicle in each garage.
You will receive a response within 10 working days. This will include a list of all our garages that are currently void and available to rent. If none of these are in the area(s) you are interested in, you will be offered to join the waiting list for those area(s). Some areas in the Borough are more sought after than others so we are unable to let you know how long you will have to wait before being made an offer.
To terminate a garage tenancy, you must give us one week notice. All tenancies end on a Sunday and the keys must be handed back by noon the following day. The garage will not be terminated until the keys are handed into the civic offices.
You can terminate your garage tenancy in the following ways:
Any rent arrears must be cleared before the termination can be accepted. If you fall behind with the rent, we may issue a 'notice to quit' and you will be asked to clear the outstanding debt.
The map below shows the areas in which Fareham Borough Council owns garages. These are not the garages which are currently available to rent. Once you have completed an application form we will send you a list of current void garages.
