On Saturday 22 August, we attended the Key to Joy Summer Fair at Fareham Park. Key to Joy is a local charity that supports adults with learning disabilities, as well as the people that support them.

At this event, the Council's Leisure and Community team and  representatives from Neilcott Construction Ltd to spoke with residents about plans for the new community centre that will be delivered at Fareham Park Recreation Ground. Tackling Stigma 

Fareham Park area is a central community location for many Fareham Housing tenants. As part of the event, we joined colleagues from the Council's Corporate Engagement Team to talk about stigma and the barriers that can prevent people from engaging with the Council and local services.

Stigma surrounding social housing tenants is deeply rooted in society. We wanted to start a meaningful conversation with tenants to better understand their experiences and identify ways we can challenge these perceptions. By listening to our tenants, we can help shape more inclusive services and improve outcomes for both current and future tenants.

Our Engagement Tree was the first step in this conversation. We invited tenants to share their thoughts on what prevents people from getting involved (represented by the roots of the tree) and to suggest ideas for creating wider, more inclusive and accessible opportunities for engagement (represented by the leaves). 

The feedback gathered will help us better understand the challenges our tenants face and inform how we design future engagement activities, ensuring more tenants have the opportunity to have their voices heard and influence the services that matter most to them.

Fareham's Big Weekend 2025

At Fareham's Big Weekend 2025, Fareham Housing was joined by organisations including the RSPCA to promote responsible pet ownership and to gather residents' initial views on developing a pet policy for council-owned homes.

Residents attended the event at Bath Lane, where Fareham Housing hosted a fun and informative programme focused on animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. The RSPCA joined the event on the Saturday, while the Council's Environmental Health team shared advice and resources on keeping pets safe and understanding local regulations.

The Housing team spoke with residents to gather early feedback on shaping a new pet policy for council-owned homes. Attendees also enjoyed a range of pet-friendly activities, including a dog agility course open to all friendly pups. Each dog's time was recorded on a leaderboard, with the fastest finisher of the day winning a voucher prize. Whether dogs were seasoned competitors or trying agility for the first time, the focus was firmly on fun.

Tenants who brought along their Spring 2025 Fareham Housing News ticket were able to claim a free puppacino and other goodies.
