Fareham Council Affordable Housing Delivery

Fareham Council is committed to using our own sites to continue to deliver a mix of Affordable Homes across the borough, and this includes both rented and Shared Ownership properties.

Rented housing will be allocated to households on the Council's housing register.

To register your interest in Shared Ownership Housing, we would encourage you join our Affordable Home Ownership Register using the link below. This will enable us to contact you with details about available properties as well as helping us to better understand the need for Shared Ownership properties in Fareham.

In addition to this you can also visit the GOV.UK shared ownership homes webpage External Hyperlink (opens in new window), as this will give you details of all organisations that offer shared ownership homes in the Fareham Borough Council area.

Schemes in ProgressConstruction on housing site

Assheton Court, Portchester

In January 2023, Fareham Housing secured planning permission for the redevelopment of Assheton Court in Portchester.

The previous scheme of 33 bed sheltered housing scheme has now been demolished and is due to be replaced with a new purpose built 60 bed affordable housing development for the over 55s.

As well as providing much needed affordable housing specifically for older persons, it is intended that the new development will deliver high levels of energy efficiency to help mitigate the climate emergency and impact of soaring fuel prices.

Works are well underway with the homes expected to be fully complete by Autumn 2026.

130 - 136 West Street, Fareham (Former Birks Building)

Fareham Housing purchased the property in March 2024 as part of the Council's ongoing town centre regeneration plans.

Following a community consultation, a planning application was submitted, and full planning approval was granted in July 2026.

The approved scheme will see the existing building demolished and replaced with a new mixed-use development comprising two commercial units and 23 new apartments, which will be a mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom homes.

The redevelopment of this prominent site will make a positive contribution to the town centre by replacing an ageing building with a high-quality new development, bringing additional residents into the heart of Fareham, and supporting local shops, services, and amenities.

Following a public consultation exercise, Fareham Housing submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of the site, which had previously been identified within the Housing Regeneration Strategy.

The proposed scheme would replace the eight existing apartments with 21 new homes, comprising 18 apartments including fully wheelchair-accessible homes, and three houses. The development would also provide parking, private amenity space, and enhancements to the local open space. The scheme aims to increase the supply of high-quality homes, make more effective use of the site, and enhance the surrounding environment.
