Fire Safety in Council Buildings
Keeping you safe from fire
As your landlord, we have legal responsibilities to keep you safe in your home. This includes meeting all fire safety standards. In our blocks of flats we:
- Carry out regular fire risk assessments to identify any risks
- Maintain fire safety measures like alarms, fire doors and escape routes
- Provide you with clear fire safety advice and information
- Regularly check and monitor safety across your building
- Ensure communal areas are clear and safe
In all our properties we fix any safety issues as quickly as we can once they've been identified or reported to us.
These steps help make sure your home stays safe and that everyone knows what to do in an emergency.
If you think there is a potential fire risk in your property or building, please report it to the Responsive Repairs team on 0800 141 2194, 01329 236100 or responsiverepairs@fareham.gov.uk
To help protect your home from fire:
- Avoid leaving electrical appliances on overnight
- Always switch appliances off when you leave your home
- Only use appliances when you are at home and awake
Your role in fire safety
Everyone has a part to play in keeping their building safe. You can help by:
- Keeping hallways, exits and doorways clear
- Never wedge open fire doors
- Report any fire safety risks or concerns, such as damaged doors or alarms
- Be aware of the fire instructions we have sent you if you live in a block of flats. Please contact us if you need another copy.
- Tell us if your needs change and whether you would need help in the event of a fire.
Smoke Alarms
Never cover your smoke alarms. To help reduce them going off unnecessarily you can:
- Avoid cooking on very high heat
- Open a window or use an extractor fan when cooking, especially if there is a lot of steam
- Keep your oven and air fryer clean
