- Responsive, inclusive and innovative Council
Our People Strategy
At Fareham Borough Council, our people are at the core of everything we do, and they are dedicated to fulfilling the Corporate Strategy and delivering exceptional service to the businesses, communities, and residents of Fareham. We take great pride in our People Strategy, which enables our people to flourish and reflects the values we hold as an organisation. It is built around six interconnected and complementary pillars:
- Attract and retain top talent
- Develop people and leadership
- Promote wellbeing, equality, diversity, and inclusion
- Invest in our culture
- Foster a high-performance environment
- Innovate and drive continuous improvement
These pillars guide our approach to creating a work environment where our people feel valued, motivated, and empowered to thrive. By investing in their growth and wellbeing, we ensure that every member of our team can contribute to the long-term success of Fareham Borough Council.
Equality, diversity and inclusion
We are a dynamic, forward-looking Council. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is good for us as employing people from different backgrounds and with a range of different experiences helps us to serve our customers better. We know our success is built on our people and we are committed to ensuring everyone is treated fairly and with respect in a spirit of equality of opportunity.
Fair recruitment
We have a positive approach to equality and inclusion and encourage applications from all sections of our communities. We aim to ensure that every stage of our recruitment process is carried out fairly and that no applicant is discriminated against. There is a section on the application form for you to outline any particular assistance you may need to help you with the interview process.
Our standards
Applications will not be accepted after the published closing date unless there are exceptional circumstances. No late applications will be considered after the shortlisting stage. Applications will only be assessed against the requirements of the job details.
Shortlisted applicants will receive details about any testing and the interview and selection process.

Successful and unsuccessful interviewees will be contacted as soon as possible after completion of the interviews with the outcome. If you would like feedback on your interview, please contact HR who will be pleased to help you.

Disability Confident
As an employer, Fareham Borough Council is committed to being a disability inclusive employer and in order to support this commitment we are proud to be part of the Government's Disability Confident scheme demonstrating that we will provide a fair and equal route to employment with the Council. It also proactively seeks to address inequality for those with disabilities by challenging attitudes towards disability, increasing understanding of disability and removing barriers to disabled people and those with long-term health conditions.
