Glass Collection

Fareham does not currently provide a kerbside glass collection service but has a network of glass bank locations across the Borough. You can find a full list of all the Council's recycling banks here

There are a total of 71 glass banks across the Borough, generating an estimated 2,300 tonnes of glass per year.

Simpler Recycling legislation requires a wider range of recycling to be collected from the kerbside, including glass and additional plastic items. This is not currently possible until a new Materials Recycling Facility is completed in Eastleigh in 2028, at which point the final steps toward full compliance can be made. However, in the meantime, there will be no changes to what can be recycled in Fareham.

Hampshire County Council has begun the process of the construction of the new MRF, which will provide a more cost effective and efficient collection of glass and will produce significantly less CO2 emissions than a separate kerbside glass collection service.

Here is Fareham Borough Council's 'roadmap to compliance', which outlines the steps that we have taken and will be taking in the lead up to the new MRF being completed. PDF (2 MB)
