Cemeteries in FarehamSt Paul cemeteries

Welcome to the cemeteries under the control of Fareham Borough Council.

Our nine cemeteries are situated in different locations in the Borough, including:

They have been providing peaceful resting places for your ancestors and loved ones since 1861 and attract many visitors who come to pay their respect.

To find a relative's grave, our Burial Record Search lists deceased persons buried in our cemeteries, their date of burial, their grave number, linking to a location plan.

Only our newest cemeteries have new graves available for burials and a Garden of Remembrance where cremated remains can be interred.

The availability of graves in each cemetery, the different religious denominations catered for, facilities on site including access and parking are listed in the information provided for each site.

Should you have any queries, please contact us on cemeteries@fareham.gov.uk or call us on 01329 236100

Visiting our cemeteries

Cemetery locations

Only Wickham Road Cemetery has specific opening hours. We recommend that you restrict your visit in the other cemeteries between sunrise and sunset.

Our cemeteries provide tranquil surroundings and are places of reflection for bereaved persons, coming to pay their respect and we ask that you please:

Cemetery locations

Fareham Borough is home to several cemeteries, each providing a peaceful and respectful setting for remembrance. Full details, including locations and specific information about each site, can be found on our dedicated Cemetery Locations page.

Finding a relative's grave

Our online Burial Search facility makes it easy to locate the resting place of loved ones within Fareham's cemeteries. The service provides details of burial records, helping you find specific graves quickly and conveniently.

Dogs in Cemeteries

Dogs are welcome in our cemeteries but must be always kept on a lead and under proper control. Dog faeces must be cleared immediately by the dog owner. A Public Protection Order for Dog Control is in place in our cemeteries.

Maintenance and upkeep of our cemeteries

The frequency of grass cutting is dependent on weather conditions and is usually undertaken between the months of March and October. Grounds Maintenance operations also include grave digging, upkeep of trees, shrub beds, hedges and emptying of bins.

After a burial, funeral wreaths are disposed of, usually after flowers have died.

Graves are usually reinstated 12 to 18 months after the burial, subject to grounds conditions and to the season of the year being appropriate. This period is necessary to allow the natural subsidence of the earth used to fill the grave. The reinstatement includes levelling and seeding.

During period of heavy rain falls, the natural subsidence can be greater than normal and our team endeavours to level graves affected as quickly as possible.

Donations and commemorative seats

We are happy to accept donations towards buying trees, shrubs, roses and bulbs to plant in cemeteries. You can also donate money for a seat with a commemorative plaque. Although it may not always be possible to install them in cemeteries, a nearby park or open space may provide a suitable alternative location. If you wish to make a donation, please call our Public Spaces Team on 01329 236100 or email publicspacesfrontline@fareham.gov.uk to discuss.
