Portchester Crematorium was opened in 1958 and is situated on the lower slopes of Portsdown Hill between Fareham and Portsmouth.
The crematorium is controlled by a Joint Committee of Councillors representing the city of Portsmouth, and the Boroughs of Fareham, Havant and Gosport but operates as an independent establishment with specialised administrative and technical support from the constituent local authorities.
The Joint Committee holds membership of the Federation of British Cremation Authorities and abides by their Code of Practice.

Scattering of ashes in the Crematorium Gardens
Portchester Crematorium Gardens have been awarded a Gold Award in the 2025 "South & Southeast in Bloom" due to their natural beauty and this recognition reflects the great care and dedication of their grounds team.
After cremation, ashes can be scattered in the Crematorium Gardens which offer a peaceful and welcoming setting for families and visitors.
