Could YOUR business be part of Fareham's Big Weekend?

Fareham's Big Weekend is a new, family-friendly, two-day community event organised by Fareham Borough Council on 12-13 July. It will take place across Fareham Town Centre including Bath Lane Recreation Ground, Fareham Leisure Centre, Fareham Live, Fareham Shopping Centre, West Street and the Civic Garden area. The Council, partner organisations and local businesses are arranging a variety of events and activities to showcase just how much the town has to offer.

From 10am-6pm on Saturday 12 July, and from 10am-4pm on Sunday 13 July, visitors can enjoy free entertainment such as music, street performers, food and drink, fun fair rides, dancing, bubble shows, workshops, community cricket matches, splash pad, cupcake decorating, badminton, pickleball, inflatable pool sessions, and much, much more!

The more local businesses that get involved the better the weekend will be - if you would like to join the fun and organise a town centre activity or special offer, please let us know by email so we can help to promote it (and you!) as part of the wider event.

New recycling regulations for businesses

'Simpler Recycling' was introduced for business waste customers on 31 March 2025 to comply with national legislation aiming to simplify refuse and recycling disposal, so that more items can be recycled across England.

Businesses with 10 or more full-time employees are now required by law to separate food waste from the rest of their residual waste. They have a legal duty to present the following three waste types, separated in accordance with the arrangements with their waste collector: Dry recyclable materials (plastic, metal, glass, paper and card); Food waste; Black bin waste (residual waste).

Businesses with less than 10 full-time employees have until 31 March 2027 to bring in the changes but are welcome to start earlier if they are able.

Sponsorship opportunities

The Council hosts a variety of community events throughout the year. We offer sponsorship opportunities to fit all budgets, allowing us to make our events even better, while offering our business partners valuable brand exposure.

We also offer advertising signage on many of our roundabouts in the Borough. By inviting businesses to sponsor roundabouts, we can create a better, more attractive and welcoming environment for the area. Money raised is used to maintain the roundabout and make other environmental improvements around the Borough.

Fareham Business Directory and Guide

Work is currently underway to construct a business directory just for Fareham! This will make it easier for local businesses and residents to find local suppliers and support businesses in the borough. It will be an online directory with Google Maps integration and all local businesses will be encouraged to enter their details for free when it's ready (all entries are verified before they are made live).

To complement the directory, a hard copy, glossy Business Guide is also being put together to promote Fareham as a great place to live, work and invest. This will be used by the Council at various exhibitions, conferences and events and will feature articles such as our business parks and centres, demographics, transport links, local education providers etc. The guide will also be available digitally alongside the directory and freely available for everyone to read and share.

The business directory and guide are only possible thanks to revenue generated through selling advertising that will appear in the business guide. Advertising sales are currently being carried out by a third party called My Business Client and space is available only to businesses based in Fareham.

The advertising sales deadline is 31 May so please act quickly if you would like to promote your business through Fareham and beyond via the business guide (free artwork design service is included).

Click here to email economicdevelopment@fareham.gov.uk to be referred to My Business Client for advertising enquiries.
