Fareham backs National Clean Air Day

Residents are being asked to come along and support National Clean Air Day at a special event in Fareham.

Staff from Fareham Borough Council will have an information stand at the podium in West Street, Fareham, on 20 June from 10am to 3pm.

Clean Air Day aims to promote simple things people can do to improve air quality and look after their own and other people’s health.

The Council is backing the national campaign as part of its plans to improve the air quality in the Fareham Borough and reduce the levels of Nitrogen Dioxide.

Parts of the Borough were highlighted as likely to exceed the Nitrogen Dioxide levels by a small amount in 2020. The areas identified were the stretch of road from Delme roundabout through Eastern and Western Way and onto the A27 by Fareham Train station, including the A32 Market Quay through and onto the A27 Portchester Road.

After a public consultation the Council now has steps in place to help address this. The Government has given the Council £1.4million to deliver the following four measures:

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, Burn Right and Walking for Health will also be at the information stand.

Cllr Trevor Cartwright, Executive Member for Health and Public Protection at Fareham Borough Council, said: “Clean Air Day is a great opportunity for us all to stop and look at how we can make changes to our lives to look after the environment.

“Please come along and visit our stand to find out what we’re doing in Fareham to tackle the issue of air quality and find out more about Clean Air Day.”
