Children asked to choose new play equipment

Children are being asked whether they want to keep a maze at a Portchester play area and make it bigger or have it replaced with something new.

Dore Avenue play area is being improved by Fareham Borough Council and a public consultation is being held to listen to the views of the younger generation.

If the maze was redesigned and made bigger, it would have space for pushchairs and wheelchairs to go into the maze.

Other ideas to make small improvements to the play area include installing play panels, floor graphics and games. Existing play equipment will be re-painted, and the play area will receive a general tidy up.

As part of the consultation process, Council staff will be engaging with local schools, community centres and youth services close to the play area.

The Dore Avenue play area consultation will take place between 16 September and 11 October and can be found by visiting www.fareham.gov.uk/consultations

The improvement works are part of a five-year improvement plan by the Council and the work is expected to begin around autumn 2020.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community, Cllr Sue Bell, said: “It’s so important that children get outdoors and play to keep them fit and healthy. We want our younger residents to help decide how to make the play area better so we’re asking people to go online with their children and take part in the consultation.”
