New social housing for Fareham

Construction has begun on eighteen new one and two-bedroom apartments for social rent on the former Hampshire Rose site in Fareham; the first new Council homes to be built in over two years.

The properties will be built on a brownfield site by local building company, FE Chase and Sons. The Warsash-based company was selected through the Council’s procurement process which supports small and medium sized enterprises.

Once built, the new development will provide much needed homes for customers on Fareham Borough Council’s Housing Register. The properties will be owned and managed by Fareham Housing, the department within the Council responsible for council-owned properties. Tenants will have to pay social rent, which is the least expensive affordable housing option.

Executive Member for Housing, Cllr Fred Birkett, said: “It's really important that we provide much needed affordable housing in Fareham. This development marks the start of an increased focus on Fareham Housing providing further affordable homes.”

The new construction was awarded grant funding from Homes England of nearly £1.3m and is expected to be completed in Summer 2020.
