New donation card launched to help rough sleepers

A new donation card has been launched making it easier to give money to a charity which directly helps rough sleepers in Fareham rather than giving cash directly to individuals.

Fareham Street Aid has created the card with a QR code which can be scanned with money going straight to the Two Saints charity.

The card can also be shown if you are approached for money as a way of saying that you are donating to a Fareham Street Aid partner. They are available from the reception of the Civic Offices, One Community shop in Fareham Shopping Centre and the Citizens Advice Bureau. We recommend that those using the card carry it close to hand in a pocket so that it can be easily produced when needed.

New Fareham Street Aid posters with the QR code on them have also been put up across the town centre and car parking tickets purchased in the town centre have a message and a QR code on the reverse asking people to donate rather than giving directly to rough sleepers.

The card is not made of plastic but is made of a biodegradable material and is environmentally friendly.

Executive Member for Health and Public Protection for Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Trevor Cartwright, said: “These cards are another way of asking people to give to the charities which help rough sleepers get off the streets. By scanning the code and donating the money goes directly to help vulnerable people get the help and support they need.”

Fareham Street Aid

Fareham Street Aid is a platform made up of statutory and voluntary agencies working together to help vulnerable people off the streets. The key message is that it is better to give to the charities who have staff specifically trained to help, rather than giving direct.

The key agencies involved in Fareham Street Aid are Fareham Borough Council, Fareham's Community Safety Partnership, Fareham Housing, Two Saints Hostel, Hampshire Constabulary, One Community and Inclusion Recovery Hampshire and there are also a number of support agencies such as One Community, Hampshire County Council and Acts of Kindness. All those involved share information and work together to help rough sleepers.
