Council launches Affordable Housing Strategy

Fareham Borough Council has launched a new policy on the provision of Affordable Housing in the Borough.

The Affordable Housing Strategy sets out how Affordable Housing will be delivered over the next five years, including the delivery of Council housing.

There are around 4,200 affordable homes in the Borough but the Council estimates that another 3,500 will be required by 2036, to address the current and future need.

Cllr Fred Birkett, Executive Member for Housing at Fareham Borough Council, said: “As our population grows we will need a higher number of affordable homes in the Borough. Our Affordable Housing Strategy outlines how this need will be met going forward. An important part of developing the policy was seeking resident’s views, helping to ensure that we are planning for the right homes in the right places.”
