Businesses get financial support

Businesses in the Fareham Borough have benefitted from the first round of financial support payments from the Government.

So far over £1.1million has been given to 80 local businesses with many more set to benefit over the coming weeks.

It is estimated that businesses in Fareham will benefit from £18-20 million in Government grant support and the local retail, hospitality and leisure sector will receive a rates holiday for the year, worth up to £14 million.

The payments are part of a package of measures announced by the Government to help businesses affected by the Coronavirus.

Under the scheme, businesses will either receive a grant of £10k or £25k. All the information about payments to businesses is on the Council’s website, including the confirmation statement for businesses to complete, at https://www.fareham.gov.uk/coronavirus/businesses.aspx

The Council website also has information for local and national businesses about the Job Retention Scheme, Statutory Sick Pay rebate, financial help for Self Employed people and rates holiday for nurseries.

Letters have been sent to 1,700 businesses across the Borough and a team of officers from Fareham Borough Council have been phoning businesses to help them get grant support.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: “In these difficult times Council staff are doing all they can to assist the Government scheme to help local businesses get the financial support they need.

“Any eligible business that hasn’t yet applied for support can do so through our Council website and staff are on hand to answer any queries, so please do get in touch and get the support for which you are eligible.”
