Press Release

Coronavirus scams warning

Fareham Borough Council is urging people to be extra vigilant of fraudsters that are using the coronavirus pandemic in order to scam vulnerable residents.

These scams take many forms such as receiving text messages claiming you have been fined by the government, or criminals turning up on your doorstep offering to test you for COVID-19.

We have created a ‘Latest Advice’ section on our website which includes information about the latest scams and will be posting frequently on our social media pages, in order to provide residents with the latest information on the types of scams that are currently going about.

Executive Member for Health and Public Protection, Trever Cartwright MBE said:

“Exploiting people who are already under a great amount of stress from a global pandemic is abhorrent.

“As some of our most vulnerable residents may not have access to the internet and might not see our online campaign, we want to ask our residents to inform friends and family of the scams to ensure everyone in the Borough is safe.”

If you think you have personally been a victim of fraud then this should be reported to Action Fraud.

If the Fraud involves use of your credit card, then this should be reported to the card provider / bank in the first instance, who should then report it to Action Fraud.
