Council working with Citizens Advice Fareham to provide advice and support across the Borough

The Council is aware of the growing concerns that face the community at this time, including for many who have never had to ask for help before. The far-reaching effects of the response to Coronavirus have left few households untouched, presenting a variety of challenges.  For some, there is real uncertainty around current and future finances, and concerns about being able to afford to feed the family.

Whilst the challenges presented by the Coronavirus may seem overwhelming, help is available to everyone who needs it. Fareham Borough Council is working with Citizens Advice Fareham to provide this support.

Many residents may be struggling financially through no fault of their own, but because their employment has ended or been reduced as a result of Coronavirus.  For some who are unemployed as a result of the pandemic, are furloughed or self-employed, the reduced income may simply not be enough to make ends meet.

Citizens Advice Fareham can provide budgeting advice, set up debt management plans, help individuals to access all government financial support they may be entitled to, or provide assistance in submitting a claim for Universal Credit, or any other benefits as appropriate.  They can also provide food vouchers to ensure all families in Fareham have food on the table.

Biddy Mayo, Operations Manager of Citizen Advice Fareham said: “There has been a lot of coverage about the support available to vulnerable people throughout this pandemic, but we are concerned that some may feel, because they aren’t in that category, that they can’t get help.

“That isn’t the case.  If people are worried about their future we would encourage them to contact us sooner rather than later so we can help to put their mind at rest.  We are able to help with all sorts of issues such as debt, benefits, housing worries, domestic abuse and any Covid-19 related enquiries.

Cllr Bell, Executive member for Leisure and Community said “I would encourage anyone worried about issues in their lives at this strangest of times to contact Citizens Advice Fareham in the first instance who will be able to help navigate a path through the problems you have.”

The Council would urge residents who have concerns to contact, Citizens Advice Fareham now.  Their trained staff will give free, impartial, one-to-one advice over the phone Please call 03444 111 306 online here or via web chat here
