Fareham Borough Councillors have approved plans for a new venue to replace Ferneham Hall.
The decision was made on Wednesday 13 May at the first ever virtual meeting of the Council’s Planning Committee. The meeting was held using Microsoft Teams, with residents able to join remotely.
The project will see Ferneham hall transformed into a community, arts and entertainment venue, offering something for everyone.
It was agreed that the Planning Committee will have the final say on external cladding and planting for the venue.
Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Sue Bell, said: “I’m pleased that, despite the challenges we are facing, this project can still move ahead. This new facility will be a great asset to Fareham, replacing the current one which has become tired and dated. While we can’t enjoy arts and entertainment activities at the moment, when we can do these things again, residents can look forward to a fantastic new venue in the town centre.”
Chairman of the Planning Committee at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Nick Walker, said: “I’m pleased that we have successfully held this virtual meeting, in line with Government guidance that planning decisions should still be taken during this time. This is a good example of how we have adapted our practices to allow Council business to continue, while keeping everyone safe.”
More details on the plans to remodel Ferneham Hall can be found on the Council’s website here.
