3 July 2020

Fareham prepared for pub and restaurant reopening

Fareham Borough Council’s Environmental Health teams have been inspecting restaurants and pubs throughout the town to ensure they are Covid-19 secure ahead of their planned re-opening this weekend.

Officers will be conducting spot-checks on licensed premises to ensure they are maintaining social distancing requirements and keeping staff and customers safe from 4 July onwards.

Any complaints received from members of the public or staff at pubs and restaurants will be investigated by the Environmental Health team.

Police have also been visiting premises throughout the Borough to ensure they are following the guidelines laid down as part of the general relaxation of restrictions from this weekend.

Other businesses, including hairdressers, are also reopening this weekend. The Government has published a list of those business types that must remain closed after this weekend on its website at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/opening-certain-businesses-and-venues-in-england-from-4-july-2020 - these include nightclubs, beauty salons and nail bars, tattoo parlours and indoor fitness and dance studios.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: “We have been working with restaurant owners and licensees of pubs and bars to ensure they have taken every precaution ahead of their reopening this weekend.

“It is understandable that there is excitement for their reopening after such a long lockdown, but it is essential that both staff and customers are kept safe at all times if we are to avoid a fresh spike in the number of infections.

“We will be checking premises to ensure they are maintaining the standards they have set ahead of their re-opening and we will not hesitate to take action where it is required in order to keep people safe.”
