Press Release

10 July 2020

Free parking for keyworkers comes to an end

From Monday 13 July, Fareham Borough Council’s scheme that allows key workers to park for free in some council managed surface car parks in Fareham town centre, will come to an end.

Parking in Council managed surface car parks, with no barriers, in the town centre will remain free for NHS workers.

We ask that NHS staff place evidence in the windscreen of their NHS worker status such as a letter from their employer or a photocopy of their work pass with personal information removed or covered.

If NHS workers do not have any evidence to place in their windscreen, they will receive a note on their windscreen asking them not to park there again, unless they can confirm their NHS worker status or pay the parking fees.

Executive Member for Health and Public Protection, Councillor Cartwright said:  “Fareham Borough Council will always be grateful to those key workers who supported the community during the initial coronavirus lockdown period.

But, as we are now emerging from lockdown, public health guidance is changing and non-essential shops have re-opened, it is time to return to normal in terms of how we charge for our car parks.

Parking will continue to be free for NHS workers as a thank you for the lifesaving work and sacrifices they have made during the coronavirus pandemic.”
