Website guide to shop safety measures across Fareham

A new website to highlight in-shop safety measures across Fareham, Portchester, Stubbington and Locks Heath has been launched to encourage people to Shop Local and Shop Safe.

The website - www.shoplocalfareham.org - includes an interactive and searchable map that enables shoppers to find opening times and safety  measures in stores in the main shopping centres of the borough.

The website has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund which made money available to local authorities such as Fareham Borough Council to spend on attracting people back into town centres as pandemic restrictions ease.

The site focusses on town centre shops and has pages dedicated to:

Traders in each of these centres, and right across the whole borough, need the support of residents and visitors after a year of lockdowns and difficult trading conditions.

The website also complements the Shop Local Shop Safe campaign being run by the Council to encourage people to use a local trader where possible, and to keep themselves safe at the same time.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: “As restrictions are easing we want to encourage people back into our town centres while still maintaining social distancing and other measures to keep us all safe.

“Our local traders are the lifeblood of the borough’s economy and after a dreadful year for them they need our support more than they have ever done before. This site enables people to see which stores are open and at what times, and also what social distancing and other safety measures they have in place.”

If any shops or businesses that are situated in one of the centres listed but do not have their details on the searchable map there is a form on the website to complete to be added: https://shoplocalfareham.org/index/contact/.
