Celebrating Six Months of Fareham Community Lottery

Fareham Borough Council and One Community are celebrating the hugely successful Fareham Community Lottery, six months after its first draw on the 13 March 2021.

Since then, the Community Lottery has sold over 1,400 tickets and raised more than £22,500. It has also provided a vital source of income for 67 different good causes across the Borough. Some of the most popular organisations supported by the lottery so far have been: 1st Fareham Scout Group, Harrison School Association, Portchester Bowling Club, The Friday Night Charity, the Cat Welfare Group and Titchfield Festival Theatre.

For every £1 ticket purchased, 40p goes to a charity or community organisation and those who purchase the tickets can choose who they want their donation to go to. The rest of the money goes toward giving Fareham residents the chance to win cash prizes of up to £25,000.

The lottery has seen more than 800 winners so far, with two supporters taking home prizes of £2000. One winner was so delighted to win as she was able to book flights to visit relatives in Canada and also donated £10 to every charity shop on Fareham West Street!

Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Sue Walker said: “I am delighted that our Community Lottery has been so successful in its initial six months. I am sure many people will have seen our Lottery Van on its rounds in the Borough! I would like to thank One Community for their efforts in setting it up and allowing these fantastic local good causes to benefit from the additional funding it raises. I encourage residents to continue their support of the lottery and these fantastic causes by buying tickets.”

Community Development Manager of One Community, Hayley Hamlett added: “This Community Lottery has been made possible by the hard work of so many people, so I am thrilled that it has proven to be popular with the residents of Fareham. It has helped to provide vital income for good causes who support people in every generation from our local area. Long may its success continue, and I thank each and every individual who has bought a ticket or will in the future.”
