Special Awards - November 21

8 November 2021

Council recognises ‘outstanding contributions’ with two special achievement awards

Two Special Achievement Awards, approved by the Council’s Executive Committee on 21 September, have been presented by the Mayor of Fareham, Cllr Mrs Pamela Bryant, to recognise outstanding contributions under Fareham Borough Council’s Citizen of Honour scheme.

The first award went to Acts of Kindness (Solent) for its outstanding contribution and support to the residents of the Borough.

Ten volunteers from the organisation were welcomed to the Mayor’s Parlour for an afternoon tea where the Mayor presented them with the ‘Citizen of Honour – Special Group Achievement Award’ in the company of the Mayoress, Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress, and the Council’s Executive Committee.

On Tuesday, 2 November, a ‘Citizen of Honour – Special Achievement Award’ was presented to BMX Freestyle Olympic medallist, Declan Brooks, who achieved a Bronze at the Tokyo Olympics.  Declan was also joined by the Council’s Executive along with members of his family to celebrate the occasion.

Cllr Mrs Pamela Bryant, Mayor of Fareham, said: “I am delighted we were able to welcome both Acts of Kindness and Declan to the Civic Offices to receive their awards in person.”

Cllr Seán Woodward, Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, said: “It is rare for us to make special achievement awards and the first time we have made two in the same year, however both recipients were impossible to ignore.

“Acts of Kindness worked tirelessly throughout the Pandemic to help people with immediate and real needs, such as food, clothing and furniture and has had a huge impact on the lives of many families and individuals.

“Declan’s achievement of winning a Bronze medal in the first BMX Freestyle event at Tokyo 2020, was immense and gave us all something to be proud of during a very difficult year.”
