Council relaunch directory for older residents

Fareham Borough Council is delighted to announce the publication of ‘The Wise Guide’ – a directory of useful contacts for older residents.

Formerly known as the Billy Book, The Wise Guide provides details of organisations to help older residents stay healthy, independent, social and active.

It is estimated that one in every eight households across Hampshire is occupied by a pensioner living alone and Fareham has experienced the largest rise of residents aged over 85 across Hampshire in the last 20 years. Loneliness and social isolation can be a problem for some older people, so The Wise Guide has been produced to help them to remain active and engaged in their community and reduce isolation and loneliness.

You can find The Wise Guide by visiting www.fareham.gov.uk/thewiseguide. You can also pick up a hard copy in Fareham Libraries, the Fareham Shopmobility office on the ground floor of the Osborn Road multistorey car park, or at the One Community shop in Fareham Shopping Centre. Hard copies will also be delivered to the Council’s sheltered housing residents.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Sue Walker, said: “I am delighted to be able to provide The Wise Guide for older Fareham residents and their families. Please pick up or print a copy and share the details with friends, family and neighbours who may find it useful.”
