Fareham Community Lottery celebrates first birthday

Fareham Borough Council and One Community are celebrating first birthday of the Fareham Community Lottery.

The lottery was made possible through an award of Community Funding from Fareham Borough Council. Today, a year later, the Lottery was able to present the Community Fund with a cheque for £11,145 to go back into helping more good causes.

Following its first draw on 13 March 2021, the Community Lottery has sold 71,774 tickets and raised more than £43,000 for 69 different good causes across the Borough.

For every £1 ticket purchased, 40p goes to a charity or community organisation and those who purchase the tickets can choose who they want their donation to go to. Some of the most popular organisations supported by the lottery so far have been: Fareham Community Fund, Cat Welfare, Harrison School Association (PTA), The Friday Night Charity and Titchfield Festival Theatre.

The rest of the money goes toward giving Fareham residents the chance to win cash prizes of up to £25,000. The lottery has seen more than 1,500 winners so far, with supporters taking home additional ticket prizes as well as cash prizes of between £25 and £2,000. Many of the winners also gave some or all their prize back to the good cause they supported with the purchase of their ticket.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Sue Walker said: “I am so pleased that our Community Lottery has been such a success in its first year. I would like to thank One Community for their tireless work throughout the year and the residents of Fareham for their ongoing generosity. We got the Community Lottery off the ground with an award from our Community Fund and I am very proud to see this come full circle today with the Community Fund being awarded with the kind donations of so many.”

Community Development Manager of One Community, Hayley Hamlett added: “I am thrilled that the Community Lottery has proven so popular with the residents of Fareham. It has helped to support good causes that touch every generation of our community and I would like to thank anyone who has bought a ticket. I am delighted to present the Fareham Community Fund with a cheque today as I know this money will be used to help even more worthy causes.”
