Lighting a beacon to celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

Fareham Borough Council is delighted to announce that, following an incredibly popular beacon lighting event to celebrate The Queen's 90th birthday in 2016, another beacon event is planned this year to mark The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Over 1,500 beacons will be lit across the UK on Thursday, 2 June 2022 and Fareham is set to light its own beacon from Portchester Castle.

To mark the occasion, there will be a free event for all the family, providing live music, food and children’s activities, so that the whole community can come together to pay tribute to The Queen at this momentous time. The fun starts at 5pm, before the lighting of the beacon at 9.45pm, and residents are welcome to bring along picnics and deckchairs.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Sue Walker, said:

“I am delighted that we’re having another event to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen at her milestone jubilee. This will be a great event for the community with something for all the family, so I encourage all residents to come along and enjoy the festivities.”

This event is one of a series taking place this year for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Find out more about the Council’s plans by visiting: www.fareham.gov.uk/leisure/queensjubilee.aspx
