Welborne shortlisted for national planning award

Welborne Garden Village is one of seven major development schemes to be shortlisted for Planning Permission of the Year in this year’s National Planning Awards.

The Planning Awards showcase outstanding work across the planning and placemaking sectors, recognising excellence in planning, heritage conservation, urban design, economic development, partnership working, environmental consultancy, housing and law.

Welborne has been shortlisted because the approach taken has aligned the individual visions of a single landowner-developer, the local planning authority and multiple other key partners into an exciting proposal for a Garden Village appropriate for the 21st Century.

The Outline Planning Permission granted towards the end of 2021 secures key elements that will underpin the new community such as quality of design, placemaking, community infrastructure and long-term stewardship.  Buckland Development Ltd (the Master Developer), Fareham Borough Council and Hampshire County Council are all committed to continue the collaborative approach achieved throughout the outline application period, with both existing and new interested parties as they emerge, throughout the whole development period of the new Garden Village which is likely to be in excess of 20 years.

The announcement of the shortlist also provides an opportunity to recognise the contribution of the wide range of professional advisors and government bodies who have supported the Master Developer and Fareham Borough Council in reaching this landmark stage.  To date this has included invaluable support from Hampshire County Council, David Locke Associates, LDA Design, CBRE, Solent LEP, Department for Transport, Homes England and National Highways.

Councillor Simon Martin, Executive Member for Planning and Development, Fareham Borough Council, said:

‘We are extremely proud to be shortlisted for this prestigious national award.  Approving the Outline Planning Application was a significant milestone for Welborne Garden Village and an exciting moment for all of us who have been involved in the project. These Awards recognise the huge amount of work involved from all sides, and the high degree of professionalism that it took to get there.

‘The winner of the ‘Planning Permission of the Year’ national award will be revealed on 9 June 2022.’
