Press Release

LGA Chairman at Solent Airport

11 August 2022

LGA Chairman gives Fareham the thumbs up

A visit by the Local Government Association (LGA) Chairman, James Jamieson, to Solent Airport has resulted in a resounding endorsement for both the airport and Fareham Innovation Centre following his visit on Tuesday 9 August.

Having heard much about the developments at Solent Airport since ownership passed to the Council in early 2015, Cllr Jamieson requested a visit to the site to see how the site has progressed over the years.  He enjoyed a tour of the site, taking in the runway which was upgraded and formally opened in 2015, improvements to the control tower, the Cafe@05 along with the new buildings and hangars.

The next step was a visit to Fareham Innovation Centre which was extended in 2018, adding an additional 33 new offices and five workshops to the original building, along with a state-of-the-art conference centre.

Cllr Seán Woodward, Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, said: ‘I was delighted to be able to show James all of the works that have been taking place over the last few years, and indeed to share our Vision for the site’s future which is in the process of being updated.

Cllr Jamieson, Chairman of the LGA, said: ‘It was wonderful to visit two vibrant and exciting spaces that bring so much into the area. Every area has its own unique business and labour market and as leaders of place, councils are often the most qualified to safeguard and support local provision to create a legacy for future generations.’
