Press Release

13 September 2022

Changes to Council services for National Day of Mourning

In recognition of the national arrangements for Her late Majesty The Queen’s funeral, the Civic Offices will be closed on Monday 19 September.

Routine services will resume on Tuesday 20 September, however emergency assistance will continue to be provided through the Council’s Out of Hours service. You can find details of how to contact the Council in an emergency at: www.fareham.gov.uk/openinghrs.aspx

There are, however, some important changes to arrangements for trade and domestic waste collections for the week commencing Monday 19 September.  Waste collection, including general waste and garden waste services, will be suspended on 19 September.  If your bin is due to be collected on Monday, it will now be collected on Tuesday 20 September.  All other collections in the week will also be delayed by one day through to the Friday collection which will now be collected on Saturday 24 September.

All waste collection services will resume as normal on Monday 26 September.

As a mark of respect, Fareham town’s Monday market will not be operating, and Solent Airport at Daedalus will be closed on Monday 19 September. Public amenities, including public conveniences and car parks will, however, remain open on the bank holiday.

Fareham Leisure Centre and Holly Hill Leisure Centre will both remain closed on the bank holiday, reopening as usual at 6am on Tuesday 20 September.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Seán Woodward said: “Monday 19 September has been declared a National Day of Mourning. The Council will therefore be joining the rest of the country to pay tribute to our most beloved monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. While there will be minor disruption to some Council services throughout the week following the funeral, these will continue to be delivered and will resume as usual from the 26 September. We thank you for your patience and understanding.”
