Press Release

5 October 2022

Postal vote disruption

In light of the planned strike action by Royal Mail on Thursday 13 October and Thursday 20 October, Fareham Borough Council is urging those with a postal vote for the forthcoming Portchester East by-election to return their completed packs immediately upon receipt, to ensure their vote is received in time to be counted.

If preferred, postal voters can hand deliver their completed packs to Fareham Borough Council’s Civic Offices up until 10pm on Thursday 20 October. The Civic Offices are open Monday-Friday 8.45am-5.15pm if residents wish to hand in their postal vote to the main reception. There is also an external post box available outside of these times when the building is closed.

Alternatively, completed postal vote packs can be handed into any polling station in the Portchester East ward on Thursday 20 October, between the hours of 7am and 10pm.

Postal vote packs for those who have already registered, will be distributed on Thursday 6 October.  For those that have applied for a postal vote between Monday 26 September and the deadline of Thursday 5 October, postal vote packs will be posted around Thursday 13 October.

If residents would prefer to visit a polling station to vote in person, they will need to cancel their postal vote in order to do this. Alternatively, residents can also change their postal vote to a proxy vote, whereby a trusted representative can cast the vote on their behalf.  Please note, any changes to an existing postal vote must be requested by 5pm on Wednesday 5 October at the latest.
