Christmas Lights 2022

21 November 2022

Fareham Launch Nutcracker Christmas Trail!

Fareham Borough Council is delighted to be celebrating another hugely successful Christmas Lights Switch On event on Saturday 19 November.

Thousands of Fareham residents attended the event at the pedestrianised area of West Street. There was something for everyone, with face painting, fun fair rides, festive gift stalls, delicious food and drink and activities all day. The Grinch made some mischief in Fareham Shopping Centre and Father Christmas himself also made an appearance.

There were street entertainers delighting the crowds throughout the day, non-stop performances on the main stage and the crowd cheered as the Christmas lights were switched on by the Mayor and Mayoress of Fareham, Father Christmas and even the Sugar Plum Fairy. The whole event was concluded with a very special Nutcracker themed finale show.

The Council also launched its Nutcracker Trail for children on the day, which will now run until Saturday 17 December. Residents can pick up a trail sheet from Fareham Library or download it and print it from the Council website:

Children can follow the trail around Fareham's festive town centre to find the Nutcrackers in shop windows. If they get all the letters and unscramble them to complete the secret word, they will be in with the chance of winning prizes such as:

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Seán Woodward, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people in Fareham throughout the day. This event is so important for our community as it not only draws people into the town centre for some low-cost family fun, but it also helps support our local traders. I would like to thank our Leisure and Community Team as well as all the suppliers, community groups and performers involved for making it an event to remember. A special thanks goes to our event sponsors: The Agency UK, M Coghlan funeral directors and Fareham Shopping Centre for making our street entertainers, Christmas tree and Nutcracker Trail possible.

“Now that the Christmas lights are shining, I encourage residents to help support their local businesses by completing their Christmas shopping in Fareham. Remember to get your children involved in the fantastic Nutcracker Trail to win yourself an early Christmas present!”
