Council launches car parking charges consultation

Fareham Borough Council has today launched a consultation on proposed car parking charges at Wicor Recreation Ground.

Following a review of the Council’s coastal car parking earlier this year, Wicor Recreation Ground car park was re-classified as a coastal car park and therefore subject to parking charges.

When the proposed fees and charges were published, the Council received a number of deputations and comments from across the community, many of which related to AFC Portchester, as the Recreation Ground is an important site for the football club. The Council took account of these concerns and, as a result, the charges we are consulting on differ from other coastal car parks across the Borough at the weekends. This will minimise the impact on the home games. The proposed charges are therefore as follows:

•    Monday to Friday: £1.10 per hour between 10am and 6pm
•    Saturday and Sunday: £1.10 for one hour, £2.20 for four hours or £4.40 for 8 hours between 10am and 6pm

Coastal season tickets will be valid for use in the car park.

A consultation on the proposed parking charges is running from today until 9 June and residents are encouraged to have their say using the consultation survey: www.fareham.gov.uk/have_your_say/openconsultations.aspx

Executive Member for Health and Public Protection at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Joanne Burton, said:

"Income from our car parks is essential for ensuring that they remain fit for purpose and available for as many visitors as possible. I would urge residents to have their say on the proposals before the consultation ends on 9 June."
