Citizens honoured for the contributions to the Fareham community

Three Fareham residents have been recognised as the Council’s Citizens and Young Citizen of Honour for their contributions to the local community.

Fareham's Citizen and Young Citizen of Honour 2023 winners were presented with their awards by the outgoing Mayor Councillor Mike Ford as his last official duty at the Mayor Making ceremony at Waypoint Church in Titchfield on 11 May.

And the winners are:

Charlotte Fairall – Citizen of Honour

Since her daughter Sophie's tragic death aged 10 in 2021, Charlotte has pioneered the work of Sophie's Legacy, an amazing charity that supports families with snacks and meals while they are in hospital with their children. The charity campaigns for more funding for research into childhood cancer and works to create change at a national level.

Abu Suyeb-Tanzam – Citizen of Honour

Abu has supported the Mayor of Fareham’s charities for many years, sometimes donating an entire evening’s takings from Gandhi Indian Take Away, even when he has been finding trading tough. He also supports Cancer Research UK all year round and is a very supportive member of his local community.

Ben Richardson – Young Citizen of Honour

Ben is a very smart and calm young man and even though he has cystic fibrosis and autism, he gets on with life while still having fun. He copes admirably with his condition and is a positive role model. Ben was represented by his mother at the ceremony.

The new Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Fred Birkett said: “It was a privilege to meet these outstanding members of the community as one of my first duties as the Mayor of Fareham. They have some incredibly moving and inspirational stories and I hope that they encourage others to take a more active role in the local community.”
