Sheltered housing scheme for older residents completed in Portchester

Fareham Housing welcomed councillors and guests today at its latest affordable housing development - Sir Randal Cremer House at Station Road in Portchester.

Fareham Housing worked with Ascia Construction Ltd to complete the development of Sir Randal Cremer House, which is made up of 16 age-restricted sheltered housing apartments for rent. These have been divided between 12 one-bedroom and four two-bedrooms apartments.

Work started on site in December 2021 and the flats will be occupied partly by tenants from the nearby Assheton Court, which is due to be redeveloped, and partly by older persons on the Council’s Housing Register. Every care has been taken to ensure that the design provides comfort for residents with mobility issues and additional needs.

While the building is owned and managed by Fareham Housing, a financial donation from the Randal Cremer Cottages Trust helped towards the costs of this affordable housing project, which is why the building is named ‘Sir Randal Cremer House’ after the charity’s Nobel Prize winning forebearer.

Executive Member for Housing at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr David Foot, said: “I am delighted that this development has been completed and will soon provide much needed sheltered housing for older residents across the Borough. Sir Randal Cremer House offers quality homes for those who really need them, and I am as impressed as always at the quality of the build.”
