Targeting Anti-Social Behaviour in Warsash

Fareham Borough Council has been working with Hampshire Police to tackle anti-social behaviour in the Passage Lane area of Warsash.

Police recently authorised a dispersal order under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 following reports of anti-social behaviour in the area, mainly involving vehicles being driven dangerously. This enabled police to deal with anti-social behaviour more effectively, giving them additional authority to remove people from the area, make arrests or seize vehicles where necessary.

To provide a more long-term solution to anti-social behaviour in the area, the Executive Member for Health and Public Protection at Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Joanne Burton, has authorised the installation of a high-quality deployable CCTV camera. Going forward, the Council will be able to review footage and will continue to work in partnership with Hampshire Police to report and reduce incidents.

Councillor Joanne Burton said: “Anti-social behaviour can make the lives of Fareham residents miserable, and I hope that this new CCTV camera will provide a long-term solution. I encourage anyone affected by anti-social behaviour to report incidents to the police so they can establish the scale of the problem and determine the most effective way to prevent it. I would also urge parents to ensure they know where their children are going and what they are doing so the community is not impacted”

Inspector Rob Kearley at Hampshire Police added: “While most people use this area appropriately, these cameras, arranged by Fareham Borough Council will provide a more long term deterrent from anti-social behaviour around Passage Lane. Officers will continue to patrol the area to address any ongoing issues and we will work with the Council to review footage where required.”

If a crime is in progress, call 999. Anyone with information about anti-social behaviour is asked to contact police on 101, or submit information to us online via our reporting tool here: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/ro/report/asb/asb-v3/report-antisocial-behaviour/
