Residents encouraged to check eligibility for energy bill discount

Fareham Borough Council is encouraging residents on low incomes to check if they can benefit from a £150 rebate on their energy bills.

The help is available to over three million households in the UK, through a central government scheme, to those most at risk of fuel poverty. Most eligible Fareham residents will receive this rebate automatically, applied to your electricity bill between October 2023 and March 2024. However, some customers may be sent a letter asking them to confirm their details by calling the Warm Home Discount Helpline so they can have their eligibility checked and get the rebate.

Residents that have not received a letter but think they are eligible, must contact the Warm Home Discount Scheme on 0800 0309322 before 29 February 2024 to get the support they are entitled to.

Residents qualify for this rebate if they either get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit or are on a low income and have high energy costs.

Councillor Seán Woodward, Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, said:

“While most eligible residents will receive this rebate on their energy bills automatically, I encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible to contact the helpline. Fuel poverty can be a huge issue, especially as temperatures plummet at this time of year, so £150 can make all the difference.”
