Coveted Green Flag Award retained by two Fareham Parks

Fareham Borough Council is delighted to announce that two of its open spaces have once again retained the prestigious Green Flag Awards.

Holly Hill Woodland Park has now received the Green Flag Award for 17 consecutive years, while the Sensory Garden in Fareham town centre can boast its 15 year in a row of receiving the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

Sites are appraised by trained parks and green space professionals, who judge them across a range of criteria. Through recognising and rewarding well-managed parks and green spaces, the Green Flag Awards set the benchmark for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

With this award, Holly Hill Woodland Park and the Sensory Garden are recognised as two of the best parks in the country, with only around 2,000 sites across 15 countries receiving the award.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved at both Holly Hill Woodland Park and Fareham town centre’s Sensory Garden on achieving a Green Flag Award. These sites provide vital green space for communities in Fareham to socialise, enjoy nature, for children to play safely and also provides opportunities for park users to improve their physical and mental health.”

Executive Member for Streetscene at Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Ian Bastable, said: “We’re extremely proud of Fareham’s open spaces and receiving this international quality mark for so many years now is testament to the tireless dedication of both Council staff and volunteers.  It could not be done without their year-round commitment to maintaining these award-winning high standards. Everyone involved should feel immensely proud of this achievement.”
