Let’s Talk Repairs and Maintenance

Fareham Borough Council has today launched a consultation asking residents to have their say on a new Draft Repairs and Maintenance policy.

The Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 places a number of obligations on landlords regarding the upkeep of their properties. In addition, the Regulator of Social Housing has introduced a new set of ‘consumer standards’ relating to repairs, maintenance and planned improvements.

The new Draft Repairs and Maintenance policy consolidates existing processes and procedures, following the requirements of all the relevant legislation and statutory guidance. Its aim is to enable and ensure the maintenance of good quality accommodation which meets the needs of our tenants.

The public consultation will run until 28 October and tenants can have their say on the draft policy by taking part in a short survey here: https://online1.snapsurveys.com/ybvo7p.

Executive Member for Housing at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Fred Birkett, said:

“The Council is committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for our residents to live in, while providing a tenant-focused service. It is important that the Draft Repairs and Maintenance policy sets out the Council’s aims in a clear and easy-to-understand way, and I encourage tenants to examine the document and provide feedback via the survey.”

Details of the consultation can be found at the Council’s website: www.fareham.gov.uk/consultations

Residents are invited to keep up to date with this and other consultations by joining the Let’s Talk Fareham Facebook group: www.fareham.gov.uk/letstalkfareham.
