Simpler Recycling for Fareham Businesses

Fareham Borough Council will be introducing ‘Simpler Recycling’ for business waste customers from 31 March 2025 to comply with the introduction of national legislation which aims to simplify refuse and recycling disposal, so that more items can be recycled across England.

The introduction of Simpler Recycling means that there will be some changes to how waste is collected from businesses in Fareham. Now, for the first time, businesses with more than 10 employees will be required by law to separate food waste from the rest of its residual waste and a wider range of recycling will also be collected.

Fareham Borough Council’s WasteSavers service has been removing businesses’ waste for over 40 years and has over 950 business customers across the Borough. Until 31 March 2025, services will continue unaffected, and the Council will be in contact with its business customers to ensure that the changes are implemented as simply and seamlessly as possible.

Executive Member for Streetscene, Councillor Ian Bastable, said: “While this legislation will require some changes to how we collect business waste in Fareham, I am confident that our WasteSavers service will rise to the occasion. Our customers will be able to embrace the new recycling opportunities with a smooth transition thanks to the detailed preparation underway by our dedicated team that have upwards of 85% satisfaction rate for this service.”
