Let's Talk Housing Decant

Fareham Borough Council has launched a consultation today on a new Draft Housing Decant Policy.

A ‘decant’ is when residents must temporarily move from their permanent homes to alternative accommodation. This can be due to emergencies like fires, necessary repairs, or to enable redevelopment.

The new Draft Decant Policy sets out the Council’s approach when a decant occurs and the processes that are involved. This process can be complicated, so an ‘easy to read’ document has been produced for tenants to go alongside the policy.

The consultation will run until Friday 4 April. Its purpose is to gain feedback from residents on the draft Housing Decant Policy and accompanying easy-read document, to ensure the key points of the decant process are communicated effectively and are easy to understand.

Residents can have their say by taking part in a short consultation survey here:

Executive member for Housing at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Fred Birkett, said: “The decant process can be a stressful time for households, therefore it is important that the Council supports residents during this time. It is also important that we make our policies and processes as clear, concise and easy to understand as possible to ensure they continue to service those who are affected by them. I encourage all residents to read the policy and provide feedback via the consultation survey.”

Details of the consultation can be found on the Council’s website: www.fareham.gov.uk/consultations
