Community Funding approved for Victory Hall in Warsash

Victory Hall in Warsash has been awarded £10,000 of grant funding through the Council’s Community Fund to provide accessible toilet facilities for its visitors.

Victory Hall is a local village hall which welcomes over 1,000 visitors each week. It hosts a wide variety of classes, meetings and celebrations, as well as being the local area’s polling station.

The hall’s existing toilet block is currently accessible only through the main car park via a back door. With many of its patrons being elderly or having mobility issues, this is no longer fit for purpose. More storage is also required to keep tables and chairs at the venue, which are currently taking up valuable space.

Provision of new accessible toilets and additional storage would be hugely beneficial to this venue and planning permission has already been acquired to provide new purpose-built facilities. This would make the hall a more attractive venue and allow it to host a wider range of events.

The estimated cost of the project is £80,000 and, following a call-in period, Fareham Borough Council is pleased to award £10,000 of community funding toward this. Victory Hall has raised an additional £17,500 from fundraising and donations, will use £12,500 from its reserves and has secured a loan for the remaining cost.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Connie Hockley, said: “Fareham has a really active community that is dedicated to making this area a fantastic place to live.  The Council sets aside an amount of money every year, through its Community Fund, to help community groups achieve their goals and get their projects off the ground. Victory Hall is a fantastic asset to the village of Warsash and this project will benefit a huge number of local residents. I am delighted that we can award this funding to help make the venue even better long into the future.”
