Fareham Businesses move Town Centre Regeneration plans forward

Over 50 people from the local business community attended a Business Breakfast at Fareham Borough Council’s Civic Office last week, to discuss and feedback on the Fareham Town Centre Regeneration Strategy.

Following a welcome speech from the Executive Leader of the Council, Cllr Simon Martin, which highlighted the strong start the Council has already made toward town centre regeneration, delegates were presented with the Council’s new regeneration strategy.

The delegates were then asked to discuss four main topics:

Each topic was discussed and ranked in order of importance and their thoughts and ideas were collated on how these ideas could be delivered. Delegates were asked about their views on effective ways to work collaboratively with the Council to jointly deliver the projects and initiatives outlined in the Strategy.  A survey was also sent to all the delegates to garner their individual opinions and give the opportunity to join various project delivery groups.

This meeting marked an important step in progressing the Fareham Town Centre regeneration and the results are now being collated and analysed in order to take forward in future plans.

Cllr Simon Martin said: “I was delighted to see so many businesses at our Business Breakfast.  Working with and supporting our local business community, to strengthen and enhance the town centre offering, is vital in our town centre regeneration plans.

“A successful town centre is an economy driver for the whole Borough and great strides have already been taken, through the purchase of the shopping centre and the opening Fareham Live. But regeneration cannot happen without our businesses. Partnership and collaborative working are essential to encourage the right mix of trades, business type and size, people, and projects to retain and grow jobs?. There is still a huge amount of work to do, but events such as these are testament to the importance we place on getting things right.”
