Press Release

27 March 2025

Is your business ready for Simpler Recycling?

Fareham Borough Council is reminding any business with more than 10 full time employees that ‘Simpler Recycling’ legislation is coming into effect from 31 March 2025. This national legislation aims to transform recycling in England by standardising waste collection and introducing separate streams for recyclable materials.

Businesses with more than 10 full time employees will be legally required to separate food and recyclable waste from the rest of their waste. Businesses with less than 10 full-time employees have until 31 March 2027 to bring in the changes but are welcome to start earlier if they are able.

The introduction of Simpler Recycling means that changes have been made to how waste is collected from businesses in Fareham. Fareham Borough Council’s WasteSavers service has been collecting commercial waste for over 40 years and has contacted its 950 business customers to explain these changes.  Other Fareham businesses can find out about the new rules and the Council’s commercial waste service here: www.fareham.gov.uk/wastesavers.

Executive Member for Streetscene, Councillor Ian Bastable, said: “The WasteSavers team at Fareham Borough Council has been working hard to ensure that Simpler Recycling can be introduced. These new services will enable businesses across Fareham to meet the new requirements and increase the amount they are able to recycle.  The detailed preparation by our commercial waste team means that the service can be implemented as seamlessly as possible.”
