Council awarded funding to improve energy efficiency of council homes

Fareham Borough Council has been awarded £1,438,235 to improve the energy ratings of some of its less energy efficient Council homes, following a successful bid for funding to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

The grant has been allocated as part of the ‘Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund’ and will enable the Council to make energy-saving improvements to 163 of its housing properties, which have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of D or lower, over the next three years. This will include the introduction of energy improvements such as insulation, window upgrades and improvements to ventilation and heating.

Fareham Borough Council has committed to becoming carbon neutral across all its buildings and services by 2030, and to help residents make carbon reductions wherever possible. This funding will support this ambition by enhancing energy efficiency in the Council’s housing stock, delivering carbon reduction benefits, while improving comfort and affordability to its tenants.

Executive Members for Housing at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Fred Birkett, said: “Fareham Borough Council takes great pride in the energy efficiency of its latest housing developments completed in recent years. This injection of funding now enables us to turn our attention to some of the older homes in our housing stock in order to give them the same energy-saving benefits. This will not only reduce the carbon footprint of these homes but will also have a significant impact for our tenants, who will benefit from cheaper bills and warmer homes long into the future."
