Community Fund supports more vital services

Fareham Borough Council has awarded Stop Domestic Abuse £2,139 from its Community Fund, towards the purchase of new furniture and furnishings to make its residents more comfortable.

Stop Domestic Abuse is a local charity providing services to women, children, young people and men affected by domestic abuse in Hampshire. The average length of stay in the Fareham refuge is three months and in 2023/24 it helped support 23 women and 52 children.

Clean, fresh and well-equipped refuge spaces in the Fareham refuge means that people who need emergency accommodation in the area can feel safe and comfortable. This funding will support the charity in providing new items such as sofas, a dining table set, storage and a children’s bookshelf, to help create a welcoming home to support families.

The charity has been awarded £2,139 from the Community Fund, with the remainder being funded through Stop Domestic Abuse funds.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Connie Hockley, said:

“Supporting the most vulnerable in our community is so important and the Fareham refuge is a crucial asset. While I wish that we didn’t need the service at all, I am delighted that the Community Fund was able to support this vital charity to help people in distress feel safe and comfortable.”
