Community Funding approved for Locks Heath Cricket Club

Fareham Borough Council has awarded Locks Heath Cricket Club £4,999 from its Community Fund, towards the construction of additional storage as well as a new scorebox to house their electronic scoreboard.

Locks Heath Cricket Club currently have over 170 boys and girls in their junior section, four senior teams and over 35 ladies in their adult section. They are a community-focused organisation, regularly engaging with local schools to promote the benefits of cricket and offer free taster sessions to introduce young people to the game.

They currently have insufficient storage, which limits their capacity to store equipment for their younger members and to meet increased demand from local children who wish to join the club. The new storage facility would allow for the provision of equipment for young people, so that they don’t have to purchase their own, often expensive, gear. The score box will also provide shelter for the volunteer scorers.

Planning permission for this project has already been approved and the club has been awarded £4,999 from the Community Fund, with the remainder being funded though fundraising and sponsorships.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Connie Hockley, said: “I am so pleased that yet another good cause is being supported by our Community Fund. So many people enjoy the Cricket Club and it is a real community asset serving residents local to Locks Heath as well as the wider area. This funding will go towards making the venue even better and ensure it is enjoyed by people long into the future.”
