Let's Talk Air Quality in Fareham

Fareham Borough Council has launched a consultation today on its new Draft Air Quality Strategy 2025-2030.

The Draft Air Quality Strategy sets out the Council’s objectives for influencing a reduction in air pollution across the Borough and replaces the Air Quality Action Plan which was published in 2008. This follows the revocation of two Air Quality Management Areas, as the air quality in Fareham has improved to levels as set out by the Department for the Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

The Council’s vision, outlined in the Strategy is to ‘Improve the quality of the air we all breathe and to benefit our overall environment for future generations.’

Air pollutants are emitted from a range of man-made and natural sources including everyday activities such as driving, heating our homes, and manufacturing of goods. High levels of these pollutants can lead to detrimental health effects.

The public consultation will run until Friday 8 August and all interested parties can have their say on the contents of the draft Strategy document and the Councils’ approach to improving air quality across the Borough by completing a short survey:

Executive Member for Health and Public Protection at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Joanne Burton, said “The Council regularly reviews and assesses air quality across the Borough. This draft strategy is an important document which outlines the Council’s key actions for improving air quality in the local area. I encourage residents to take the time to review the document to ensure they have their say on the Council’s proposed approach and objectives moving forward.”
