Last chance to have your say on Local Government Reorganisation

Fareham Borough Council is reminding residents to complete a survey regarding the Government’s plans to reorganise local government before the deadline on 27 July.

The Government wants to change the current ‘two-tier’ council structure - where residents have services delivered by both Hampshire County Council and their district or borough councils - in favour of a single council that would be responsible for all local services in that area.

Fareham Borough Council has been collaborating with 11 other councils* to develop options that it thinks would work best for residents, businesses and wider community. A key part of this work is understanding how residents, businesses and community groups feel about these proposed changes and what area they think their future council should cover.

The survey runs until 27 July and give residents’ a once-in-a-generation opportunity to have their say on how their Council services will be delivered in the future. The survey can be found here and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete:

Cllr Simon Martin, Leader of Fareham Borough Council, said: “Fareham Borough Council is working hard with other local authorities in Hampshire to ensure that Fareham gets the best possible outcome from Local Government Reorganisation. We believe that councils need to remain small enough to truly represent their local areas, but large enough to be able to deliver effective and efficient services across a wider area. Fareham residents’ feedback is incredibly important to help authorities understand what matters most. I strongly encourage anyone who has not done so already to fill in the survey, ahead of the deadline, and help us shape our final proposals to Government.”
