Fareham Borough Council publishes Fourth Annual Update to Climate Change Action Plan

Fareham Borough Council is pleased to present the fourth annual update of its Climate Change Action Plan.

The Climate Change Action Plan was first published in June 2021. It focuses predominantly on reducing the Council’s operational carbon footprint. This is in support of the Council’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral when providing services to its customers by 2030.

The projects in the plan have helped the Council to reduce its emissions by 20% since 2019/20. The 2045/25 year is also the first that the Council has measured the emissions of Fareham Live and Fareham Shopping Centre, which have contributed an additional 241 tCO2e (tonnes of Carbon Dioxide equivalent) to its current footprint.

The Climate Change Action Plan update also explains some of the challenges involved in achieving the Council’s ambitious carbon neutral commitment and how the Council intends to tackle these, as well as some of the initiatives to help residents and businesses across the Borough to reduce their carbon emissions and help the Borough respond to the changes brought about by Climate Change.

You can find the full Action Plan on the Council’s website:

Executive Member for Planning and Development, Cllr Malcolm Daniels, said. “Reducing the Council’s carbon emissions is a high priority, and I am pleased to see the results of the work so far and our plans for the future in this annual update of our Climate Change Action Plan. Carbon reduction can also bring financial benefits. For example, we secured over £1m in Government funding to help decarbonise the heating of our Depot and install solar panels, battery storage and a pool cover at Fareham Leisure Centre.  The Leisure Centre works should have a healthy impact on energy costs for this popular site, which we are monitoring over the next 12 months.”
